Indian Wedding Cost by Guest Count: 100, 150, 200 and 300 Guests, Honestly Priced

Ask ten planners what an Indian wedding costs and you will get ten ranges. Ask what moves the number most and every honest one gives the same answer: guest count. Every guest is rooms multiplied by nights multiplied by plates, and that arithmetic compounds faster than decor, entertainment or photography ever will. Industry estimates put the average destination wedding budget in India at roughly ₹58 lakh in 2025, but averages hide the spread. This guide breaks the numbers down by guest count, using planner-published 2025-26 estimates, so you can see where your list puts you before you fall in love with a venue.

For 100 to 150 guests — the most common destination wedding size — published bands put a typical celebration between ₹25 lakh and ₹60 lakh, with the city choice pushing it well beyond. Udaipur sits in a premium band of ₹37.5 lakh to ₹3.75 crore depending on venue tier, while Jaipur and Goa run ₹27 lakh to ₹1.05 crore for the same guest list. The spread looks absurd until you remember what it hides: the same 130 people can be housed in a boutique heritage property or a palace, and the rooms alone can differ five-fold.

Udaipur is the clearest illustration of how hotel tier sets the bill. For 100 to 120 guests over two nights, planner-published estimates run: boutique heritage hotels ₹70-95 lakh; standard five-star properties ₹95 lakh to ₹1.3 crore; luxury five-stars ₹1.4-1.8 crore; and palace hotels from ₹2.2 crore upward. Per person, that is roughly ₹60,000 a head at the heritage end, rising past ₹1.8 lakh a head at the palace end — a three-fold jump for the same guest list, the same city and the same two nights. Tier, not guest count, is the second-biggest lever.

Add fifty to a hundred more guests and every line item scales. For 200 to 250 guests, Udaipur bands run ₹62.5 lakh to ₹6.25 crore, while Jaipur and Goa run ₹45 lakh to ₹1.75 crore. Notice what happened: the floor rose by roughly two-thirds over the 150-guest tier. That is the rooms-nights-plates arithmetic at work — a hundred extra guests is not a hundred extra dinner plates, it is fifty extra rooms for two or three nights, extra transport, extra breakfasts, and often a larger venue category altogether. Trimming the list remains the single most effective budget decision you can make.

At 300 guests and above, you are into big-wedding logistics whatever the city. Udaipur bands run ₹75 lakh to ₹7.5 crore; Jaipur and Goa run ₹54 lakh to ₹2.1 crore. At this scale most properties cannot house everyone on site, so budgets absorb second hotels, shuttle fleets and larger production teams. The ceilings stretch so far because a 300-guest palace wedding with full production is a different product from a 300-guest resort wedding — same headcount, entirely different event. If your list is genuinely 300-plus, plan the room block before anything else; it will decide your venue shortlist for you.

For comparison, home-city weddings run far leaner. Published bands put a 100-150 guest budget-tier city wedding at ₹5-10 lakh, a 200-300 guest mid-range celebration at ₹10-25 lakh, and luxury city weddings anywhere from ₹50 lakh to ₹5 crore. The working rule we quote couples: a destination wedding typically costs two to four times an equivalent home-city event, because you are paying to house and feed every guest for multiple days rather than hosting them for one evening. Neither is the wrong choice — but the multiplier should be a decision you make, not one you discover.

One honest gap in the data: weddings under 100 guests. Reliable published bands exist for the 100-150, 200-250 and 300-plus tiers, but intimate weddings are quoted case by case and the public numbers are thin. Costs do scale down — fewer rooms, fewer plates — but not linearly, because venue minimums, decor setup and production carry fixed floors regardless of headcount. For a 60-guest wedding, the honest route is a planner quote against your actual date and shortlist, not a number from a listicle. Be suspicious of any site that gives you a confident figure for an intimate wedding; we will not.
